INTRODUCTION
Assalamualaikum
and hello everyone! My name is Nurul Amirah binti Mohd Sharizal. I'm from Rawang, Selangor and I took my SPM at SMK Taman Bunga Raya (1). In 2022, I got the chance to further my studies as an
undergraduate student of Diploma Science (AS120) at UiTM Tapah, Perak.
My main purpose
of doing this e-portfolio is to introduce one of my subjects for this semester,
which is UED102. First of all, what exactly is UED102? Better known as
Study Skills course, it is an important learning skill for every student in
going through university life well. It exposes students to basic academic skills; e.g.
effective time management which
would help students cope with academic demands at the tertiary level.
In this subject, we'll get to learn seven chapters which are:
Chapter 1: Getting Ready To Learn
Chapter 2: Goals Setting & Learning Management System
Chapter 3: Library & Campus Resources
Chapter 4: Time Management & Organizational Skills
Chapter 5: Memory, Learning & Improving Concentration
Chapter 6: Taking Lecture Notes
Chapter 7: Academic Integrity & Performance
Enough with the long introduction, let's get into details, chapter by chapter! :)
CHAPTER 1: GETTING READY TO LEARN
It's not simple, transitioning from a school or college to a university. Students have to fit themselves in required lifestyles (Online Distance Learning, ODL to face-to-face, F2F) such as setting up a study table, purchasing a planner, or finding a study companion.
However, it's not impossible to be one of successful students if you know how to adjust yourself according to the new environment. It's not as easy as it seems, but with a strong determination to succeed, I believe we can do it! Here is eight characteristics of successful students:
Moving on to the next section, our first task is to take Learning Styles Inventory Test! Before showing my result, shall we get to know how many learning types are there? 👀
For the result, I got:
As shown above, I got 9/10 for visual style, 6/10 for auditory style and a 4/10 for kinesthetic style. So basically, I can concluded that I'm a visual learner! ✌The last task for this chapter is to make my personal learning style plan.
Now that I've got a glimpse of my learning style, I'll try my best to describe my plan on this task.
For taking or making my own notes, I'll use bright colors. This will helps me to memorize notes better. I'll also use variety of highlighters to make it more interesting to read, thus, making my study session more enjoyable. I believe this method is good for memorizing-subjects rather than subjects that are more to calculation.
In my course, we need to do more calculation than memorizing so I need to adapt to some other method too. I've tried some and these suited me;
1. Summarize the information out loud in your own
words.
2. Put yourself in the picture. You can do this with a subject like history; participate in a battle or
a significant meeting such as the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Ask yourself how
you feel. This combines Visual and Kinesthetic modes.
3. Create your own auditory notes using a tape recorder.
And that's the wrap for Chapter 1 👏 Let's move to the next chapter!
